Secretive Tourist

secretive tourist

Mom and I are off to Spain on Friday to visit our brother Dan!  My new camera will make it more challenging to be a secretive tourist but the pictures will be well worth it.  In choosing a camera bag last week, I couldn’t commit to anything expensive yet so at just $10, this one will serve the purpose perfectly for this trip.  A comfortable shoe, breathable clothes and minimal jewelry are my travel staples along with extra sunscreen and water.  We used the Top 10 book last year in Istanbul and it was perfect because it lists the Top 10s of everything in the city (museums, restaurants, neighborhoods) with pull out maps but is also slim  enough to fit in any bag which make them the perfect secretive tourist companion.  The weather forecast calls for high 70s and clear skies throughout the majority of our trip and is just what the doctor ordered after this brutal winter.

Spotlight On: Bar Cart

I have been eyeing this bar cart for a while now and was so disappointed when it sold out around the holidays and I didn’t make the purchase.  After seeing it again the other day I checked the Target site and not only was it back in stock…it was on sale….with an additional 15% off!  That softened the blow of the shipping cost, something I almost never will pay but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get it this time around.  We have been growing our bar on a West Elm tray but excited to move it over to an official cart and get some new accessories.

thank you!

IMG_0804I wish to instill a sense of gratitude in my daughter.  I would love for her to feel grateful and appreciative of the life that she has and the fabulous people that she is lucky to have in her life.  Our mother instilled a sense of gratitude in her children.  She was and still is adamant about sending thank you notes, not just for material things received, but also for kind words said, helpfulness, and love shared.  In this day and age, it is so easy to send out a quick text or write-up a quick email; which are definitely acceptable ways to show thanks.  However, a lovely hand written note, or a one of a kind piece of art , in my opinion, is a super special way to show someone how appreciative you really are.  I love receiving mail, as does my sister Caitlin.  An actual physical card, among all those bills and junk mail,  is such a surprise when you open the mailbox. It’s nice to know that someone appreciated what you gave or did for them.

Reagan and I try our best to get thank you notes out within a week of receiving a gift, feeling loved and/or appreciated.  I’ve found some fabulous cards, at great prices, at our local Marshall’s, Home Goods and even in the dollar section at Target! If we use store-bought cards, I provide Reagan with markers and crayons to decorate the inside of the cards, and when she’s done decorating we talk about what she was given, physical and/or emotional and then I write a quick note to the sender.  We have even created our own envelopes in the past, to send our friends and family notes.

Our Christmas Thank You Notes, in my opinion, turned out really great and were a special way to thank those that thought of Reagan over the holiday season.

I painted, with washable paint, Reagan’s hands in her choice of color and then had her place her hands on a piece of paper and press down firmly.  We thanked our family and friends with the saying ‘I give my (insert gift) a ten!

I hand wrote my own notes on these super simple cards that I found in the dollar section at Target.

Summer dresses are so simple, light and airy.  This Target dress is adorable and lightweight.  The waist is singed with elastic to give it shape and the loose ruffle top adds a sweet touch! Luckily, Reagan loves a fabulous hat, so she had no problem wearing this adorable Janie and Jack sun hat. The Children’s Place sandals are her favorite, a little matchie, matchie with the dress, but still so adorable.  Reagan wanted her toes painted this morning, so she is wearing OPI Grand Canyon Sunset, just like mommy!

Affordable Play Clothes

Super cute play clothes at an affordable price!  Target is a go-to-spot for play clothes for Reagan.  They fit and wash well and I don’t cringe when they are ruined by a smushed banana.
