Straps & Stripes

Summer dresses are so simple, light and airy.  This Target dress is adorable and lightweight.  The waist is singed with elastic to give it shape and the loose ruffle top adds a sweet touch! Luckily, Reagan loves a fabulous hat, so she had no problem wearing this adorable Janie and Jack sun hat. The Children’s Place sandals are her favorite, a little matchie, matchie with the dress, but still so adorable.  Reagan wanted her toes painted this morning, so she is wearing OPI Grand Canyon Sunset, just like mommy!

Favorite Place to Be

IMG_9506

Everyone has a favorite place; whether it be a cozy reading chair in the corner of their bedroom or a destination location that they can’t wait to get back to. When asked the other day if I had a favorite place, I didn’t even bat an eyelash before going into detail about the best place on earth, and no, I’m not talking about Disney World. Simcoe Island is hands down my favorite place to be. This island, though tiny, is bright, beautiful and full of so much life, love and…cocktails- yes, we do drink our fair share.

Simcoe Island is home to my families cottage. But not just my immediate family, my mother’s brother and her sisters families too! It by no means accommodates (has beds for all) everyone at the same time, but we make it work and it does just that..it works and it’s amazing! Family makes everything better and this place, although amazing on it’s own, wouldn’t be as fabulous without all of the cousins, moms, dads, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters that have the true pleasure of being able to call this place their cottage!

There is not one single thing that you need to worry about when you’re at the cottage. If you brought enough food and alcohol, you don’t even need to leave the island! But if you do leave; it’s to Wolfe Island or Kingston to head to a restaurnat to have a meal, to a bar to hear a band, to one of the local stores for a delicious ice cream cone, to the bakery for a delectible treat or to church for Sunday morning mass (with the good catholic that my mother is).

The dock is perfect, the water is clear and there is everything or nothing to do. The cottage has definetly changed for me since Reagan was born. It was all beer pong, quarters and euchre before I was pregnant. Now it’s kiddie floats and tea parties–which have turned into the new reasons why I love this place.

Visits to the cows are a staple and boat rides are a must!

The three hour drive, ferry rides, and boarder crossing are all totally worth it and add such a fabulous touch to my favorite place!

Reagan, my mom and I had a blast over Memorial Day weekend at the cottage with several family members. Although a strong north wind kept us from froliking in our suits, it was still the perfect trip. A truly fabulous place <3

Here are some pictures from our trip this past weekend.

Time Flies

First day of summer camp?!? Seriously, how did this happen?? He’s just my little baby :(. Big H started June Bugs camp this morning at the preschool he will be attending in the fall. He doesn’t always do well around new people and was telling me the whole ride there that he wanted me to stay with him. Luckily two of his little buddies were in his class and their moms made sure to have them there a little early to make Big H more comfortable. He was immediately distracted by some toy boats and didn’t even want to give me a hug goodbye. Bittersweet for sure. Next thing I know we will be dropping him off at college :(. He had so much fun and didn’t want to leave when I came to pick him up. It’s going to be a fun summer!

Into the Groove

So it has been brought to my attention that I have been noticeably absent from this blog. Of course I already knew it was true but when someone I don’t even know mentioned it to one of my sister’s it meant it was time for me to step it up. Now I could give you a whole list of excuses as to why I don’t post very often…two young kids at home, training for a marathon, a husband that travels but basically what it comes down to is that you make time for things that are important to you. Lots of people would question how I have the time to devote hours and hours to running every week but I make the time because I enjoy it…and it’s cheaper than therapy haha. So here I am because when we first started this project I thought it was going to be so much fun and therefore from now on I will find the time to contribute :)

I was checking out one of the many running blogs I read on a daily basis, SkinnyChickBlog, and she mentioned that she was going to try out a shape up series being put on by another fitness blogger.

Apparently Gina at The Fitnessista is a personal trainer and fitness instructor and does this type of series twice a year. She focuses not on weight loss but on losing fat and gaining lean muscle while helping you feel healthier.

SSU 2013

The Fitnessista’s Summer Shape Up is a four week meal and fitness plan and it’s FREE. I consider myself to be in pretty good shape but my eating habits could definitely use some work. As I’ve mentioned before, my meals often consist of whatever my three year old leaves on his plate. I would love some help with ideas of eating clean and it certainly wouldn’t hurt the hubby either! The workouts are mostly at-home routines so I plan on doing them along with my running. I swear nursing this kid is sucking everything right out of me and I could definitely use some more muscle too. It will certainly help with bikini season right around the corner too!! Who’s with me?? It’s only four weeks and it’s free so it can’t hurt to try…right?? Your health is certainly important so you need to make time for it :)

I promise to be back again soon. You won’t see me doing many kids fashion posts since I have two little boys…unless I can dress them alike while the hubby isn’t looking because I secretly love when people dress their kids the same. Since I live in sweats and running clothes you also won’t want me doing any fashion posts of my own. However, I will give you some killer baking recipes because sugar really does make everything better…probably won’t fit into our little fitness challenge though :(

Stationary Exchange

As I have mentioned before, there are few things I love more than writing or receiving a hand written letter.  In the summer I attempt to mail one hand written letter a day to friends and family all over the country. Being a teacher allows me lots of free time to accomplish this little task and it’s also just another excuse to buy cute stationary. When purchasing at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s you usually end up with 8 or 10 of the same cards. To spread the wealth, a girlfriend suggested that we have a stationary exchange. It ended up being a great girl’s night with lots of yummy food, laughs and a goody bag full of new stationary upon departure.
