Loving Lola!

20131026-102333.jpg

It’s no surprise that I love accessories as seen here, here, and here. There are also few things I love more than scoring a deal to add to my collection. Luckily for me, my old roommate and fellow fashion obsessed friend, Megan, opened an accessory store to fulfill both of these needs. While we were living together in the city, Megan was working for a department store in their corporate office but always had her sights set on opening her own store. Her tireless efforts paid off and Lola Accessory Boutique was born. The store is a reflection of Megan’s experience in the field and her astute eye for high quality, on trend pieces offered at affordable prices. Visit http://www.lolatoga.com to check out Megan’s selection and also stop by their Facebook page for the most recent additions.

Maxxinista Finds

I’ve always been a fan of TJ Maxx and Marshall’s but never stopped by their jewelry counters. A couple months back Kim, from Penny Pincher Fashion , posted a picture on Instagram of an incredible necklace that she had found at TJ with the hashtag #maxxinista. After scrolling through other people’s great jewelry finds, I made it a point to look next time I was in a store. While it is definitely hit or miss because every store carries different merchandise, I have found some gorge pieces at maxxinista prices. I guess all those commercials they air constantly are paying off (and helping me save at the same time!) Have you found any great pieces?

This reminded me of the J.Crew cluster with orange accents!

Jewelry Closet

Sounds amazing, right?! When we were looking at apartments and I saw this pre-war medicine cabinet, I had a vision. Having experimented with many different forms of jewelry storage over the years and I now know that if I can’t see it out in the open, I won’t wear it. The ability to have all of my jewelry on display but also be able to conceal it behind the doors is a dream, especially in a tiny NYC apartment! I know I have a lot…probably too much but this collection wasn’t built overnight and is comprised mostly of Forever 21 finds or deeply discounted J.Crew baubles.

There is a lot of storage in this small space. Up on the top shelf are towels, wash cloths and sheets. I found these storage bins at TJ Maxx but they are available from a variety of retailers. The Container Store outfitted the rest of the closet including the nail polish bins.

Forever 21 Finds

The other day while waiting to check out at Forever 21 in Soho I noticed one of the sales associates with a pile of untagged jewelry at the register. Among the pile I spotted what appeared to be lookalikes of Stella & Dot’s Renegade Cluster Bracelet . Although I’ve seen it on countless of the fashion blogs I read, it was never something I was dying to have.

At $59, the bracelet was too trendy to be worthy of that price tag.  But for a Forever 21 price, sure! Why not?  I immediately spoke up and asked him if they were for sale. He shot back with a sharp “no” and looked back down at the keyboard. I put my headphones back on and continued to wait in line. Less than a minute later the girl behind me in line was tapping on my shoulder and pointing to the guy. He asked if I still wanted them because they were available and he was searching for the price. I quickly replied yes and he said he’d keep looking. The girl who had tapped me on the shoulder did so again but this time asked if I was going to buy both the silver and the gold. She looked bummed when I told her yes and then rolled up her sleeve to reveal that she was wearing the renegade cluster and said, “it looks just like the Stella and Dot one!” Although it’s not an exact replica, as there are no crystal clusters, for the $6.80 price tag, it’s well worth adding it into a future stack.
