Floral Print Jeans

IMG_0321
I’m totally in love with floral print pants for toddler’s. They seem to be a go to piece for Reagan these past few weeks as this Rochester weather figures itself out. Jeans weather is my ultimate favorite.  I love a comfy pair of jeans paired with a t-shirt, a light sweater and sandals. (The lovely bruise is a result of a deck spill at Ev’s house… this poor girls head sure does always hit the ground first…97 percentile or greater…boom!)

Ta Da! Drip catcher!  We have only tried this with paper muffin cups, but I’m sure the tin ones would work fabulously too!

A Special Day for Runners

20130605-151721.jpg

Happy National Running Day!! I celebrated by going for a glorious, yet rare, afternoon run. The weather was glorious and the smells of summer are beginning to fill the air. The hubby is heading out of town on business later today so he wanted to come home and spend a few hours with the kids first. So I took the opportunity to lace up my sneakers and head outside! It was the perfect way to prep myself for a couple of days alone with the kids and all of the craziness that comes along with it.

I love running for so many reasons. I really feel like there are very few problems that can’t be solved by going for a run. It clears my head and keeps me sane. It forces me to actually take some time out of the day for just myself, even if it usually means that I am up before the sun or after everyone else is in bed to do so. It can sometimes be hard to motivate myself to get out the the door but I have never once regretted it when its finished. It has taught me so much about myself and how in all areas of my life I can really push myself harder than I ever thought possible if I really want something. It has helped me explore new cities and meet new people. On top of all of that it has given me the luxury of being able to indulge in my sweet tooth more often than I would otherwise…I love a good cupcake :).

Whether you are a runner, hope to be one someday or know someone that is I hope you enjoy this day that has been dedicated to all of the crazy runners out there.

Slime Time!

IMG_0279I’ve been wanting to make slime with Reagan for a while now.  However, I either always forget to pick up Borax when I’m at the grocery or get so frustrated in the cleaning aisle because (a) I have no idea what I’m looking for and (b) there seems to never be anyone around to ask for help.  Reagan and I lucked out yesterday while at the grocery and got ourselves some Borax!  A sweet older woman who was stocking shelves showed us where it was and then told us how it was a popular cleaning product when she was Reagan’s age.  She remembered her mother using it to clean the cloth diapers that her and her siblings wore.  She was super sweet and thanked us for the memories.  The commercials (1 & 2) are fabulous.  With this gigantic box of Borax, I better start finding some uses for it around the house.  I mean, check out that Mule Team on the front of the box…this stuff must be AMAZING!!

So now that we had our Borax, we were ready to make some slime!

Materials

IMG_0140

4 oz bottle of glue

1/8 cup of water

1/2 tablespoon Borax

Bowl for mixing

Spoon/Spatula for stirring

Food Coloring – optional

Directions

Run tap to get hot water.  Remove top of glue bottle and hold glue bottle under tap and allow for hot water to fill empty space at the top of the glue bottle.  Obviously, you want the tap running slowly.

Return cap to top of bottle and shake.

In a small bowl combine the water, Borax and glue. Continuously stir until combine.

Our slime turned out to be more of a silly putty texture than a slime texture.  I was totally picturing the final product being something ooey and gooey, kinda like the Ghost Buster Slime…which this turned out to be nothing like…bummer.  The putty texture was interesting and was one that Reagan had never felt before.  She really enjoyed the new texture and had fun cutting off pieces, rolling them into balls and serving them for us as a snack!

After she was done playing, I stored the slime…putty in a plastic zip lock bag.  I’m not sure how well it will keep, but it doesn’t hurt to try.  With the size of the Borax box that we got, it was the only size they had, we can make putty for the entire neighborhood.

Watch out Mrs. Fields!

20130602-165143.jpg

I am that person who can’t make a trip to the mall without stopping at Auntie Anne’s for a pretzel or Mrs. Fields for a cookie. Unfortunately this is an obsession that I have already passed on to Big H at the age of three…oops. Nine times out of ten I will pick an M&M sugar cookie. Unless I feel like being a little bit “healthy” and opt for an oatmeal raisin one instead haha. Well I recently found the absolute perfect recipe that rivals those sweet mall morsels. Since the the Summer Shape Up starts tomorrow I figured I needed to get this recipe up so that you could make them today and eat the whole batch like I plan to! I followed Joyfull Momm’s recipe almost exactly but I always make a double batch because they are so melt in your mouth delicious that they disappear quickly and because I like to keep some in the freezer :).

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups All-Purpose flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 1/2 cups sugar, plus 1/3 cup for rolling

2 oz. cream cheese

6 tblsp. unsalted butter, melted

1/3 cup canola oil (or vegetable)

1 large egg, preferably at room temperature

1 tblsp. milk

2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups M&Ms

Directions:

1. In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl combine the cream cheese and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Pour warm melted butter on top and cream together.

3. Whisk in the oil, then the egg, milk and vanilla extract.

4. Slowly start to fold flour mixture in with a rubber spatula.

5. When the dry ingredients are partially incorporated, add in 3/4 cups of M&Ms. If you wait until the mixture is fully mixed in to add the M&Ms then you will end up overmixing. Refrigerate 2-3 hours.

6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll about 2 tbs of dough into a ball and roll in reserved sugar as quickly as possible. You don’t want to handle dough too much.

20130602-154241.jpg

7. Flatten dough balls with the bottom of a glass or measuring cup until they are about two inches in diameter. Bake 10-12 minutes or until just set.

8. When cookies are out of oven press three (or more) M&Ms onto the top of each one. Let cool on baking sheet for five minutes and then transfer to cooking rack.

The recipe yields about two dozen cookies so I definitely recommend doubling it :)
