Falling for New York Again

Sometimes I find myself in a love/hate relationship with New York. There are countless things that can be aggravating and frustrating about this concrete jungle but then I have week like this past one and it makes me appreciate all the things that can only happen here.

Hudson got neutered today, which can happen everywhere. But our walk from the clinic to MSG, for our second Knicks game this week, was in the perfect fall weather. The air was crisp and the leaves were out in all their fall glory and the best part was that it was early enough to beat the tourist crowds.

Our little guy is now home recovering and not happy about his blue inflatable ring around his neck, but much happier than with the cone of shame.

New York, this week you brought friends’ engagement celebrations, excitement at work, double dates, and obviously some great shopping finds. (this, this, want this in every color and it’s on sale!) I promise to
remember this week next time I miss a subway, someone steals my cab or I am carrying all my groceries home.

Feeling Lucky

I recently purchased a pair of Lucky Brand boots, similar,  from a fabulous tiny shop in a neighboring town.  I have searched for the past few years for tall fall boots that are slim enough  for my tiny calf’s.  This is the only pair of boots that I have found that I can’t fit my entire arm down while wearing.  Being completely satisfied with my purchase, I decided to take a look at the online Lucky Brand store…What I found was amazing!

Lucky has a fabulous sale happening right now!  Lucky Brand sale items are on sale! Here are the pieces that I’m contemplating purchasing for Reagan:

Colorful Kernels

20131109-144232.jpg

Let the holiday crafting begin! We, as a family, have so much to be thankful for. I’m excited to share our Thanksgiving crafts with you and hope that you have as much fun creating them as we did!

Craft Number 1:
The Thankful Kernel

Materials

20131109-135134.jpg
Red, yellow, and orange paint
3 Paint brushes
3 paint containers
Thick white paper ( we like watercolor paper)
Scissors
Pencil

directions

20131109-135416.jpg
Freehand draw a large corn kernel. Cut out your kernel.

20131109-135536.jpg
Trace your kernel, as many times as it will fit, onto a single sheet of paper. I like to use heavier paper for painting products. Watercolor paper always seems to hold up the best. Trace as many kernels as needed. ( I messed up the saying on the middle kernel; hence it being scratched out.)

20131109-135743.jpg
Write the above phrase onto each corn kernel.

20131109-135912.jpg
Provide your artist with red, orange, and yellow paint.

20131109-140035.jpg
Clip your paper to an art easel, or place on table with something underneath to protect your table top. It’s time to paint those kernels!

20131109-140243.jpg
Allow paint to dry.

20131109-140333.jpg
Cut out each kernel.

Low Fat Chicken Chili

20131105-074456.jpg

The picture of this Chicken Chili on Wicked Yummy was enough to make me stop at the grocery for the ingredients that I needed and make, what I hoped to be, a yummy dinner for my family.

My husband loves HOT, so I was pretty sure that this recipe, with its cup of Franks Red Hot, would be a hit! The recipe calls for an optional topping of crumble blue cheese, since I didn’t have any other recipes for the week that needed the crumble blue and the serving size that is offered for sale being quite large, I skipped buying the cheese and put out sour cream as an optional topping. The sour cream was a delicious substitute!

20131105-074651.jpg

directions

20131105-075023.jpg
Boil chicken on stove top or cook in a small amount of water in a crock pot on high. My crock pot is finicky with its heat and the amount of time that it takes to cook things. This being said, I can’t give an exact crockpot temp or cooking time. My chicken cooked on high in the crockpot for one hour. When chicken is done cooking, shred using two forks.

20131105-075336.jpg
Heat on high the canola oil in a large pot. Once hot, add garlic and onion. Cook stirring occasionally until tender- about 3 minutes.

20131105-075802.jpg
Add to the pot the peppers, carrots, and celery. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes.

20131105-164031.jpg

20131105-164039.jpg
Add in paprika, cumin, oregano, drained and rinsed black bean along with drained and rinsed cannelloni beans. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes.

20131105-164638.jpg

20131105-164643.jpg

20131105-164651.jpg
Add in shredded chicken, diced and crushed tomatoes, hot sauce and chicken broth. Stir to combine. Simmer chili until veggies are at desired tenderness. Add salt and pepper to taste.

The chili was a hit with the hubby and I, but a bit too spicy for the kiddo.
Thanks Wicked Yummy for a delicious recipe!

An Organized Attempt

20131104-174640.jpg

Life changes drastically when you have a baby. However, when that baby becomes a toddler, life becomes a whole new type of crazy!
If we thought we were busy before; add into the mix school, swim and dance lessons, play dates, story hour at the library, nap time, along with lunches and dinners with family and friends.

My husband is an insanely talented and uber busy Realtor, that sometimes needs an extra reminder when he’s wanted at a preschool Halloween party or an extended family dinner. I decided to create a large color coded calendar to help both my husband and I get organized by seeing the month laid out somewhere other than on our cell phones. Each month I highlight in yellow the events that I would like for my husband to attend. I do still verbally tell him what’s going on throughout the month, but this calendar gives me my, ‘ yes, you did know about this’ when he tells his mother that I never told him about dinner at her house. :) Other events such as our daughters doctors appointments and school activities are listed, so that I don’t forget and if my husband has time, he can join us.

Material

20131104-172952.jpg
Large Sheet of Paper
Pen or Pencil
Ruler
Paint
Paint Brush
Markers- not pictured

20131104-171415.jpg
Measure and square off the size of calendar that you want.

20131104-171420.jpg

20131104-171431.jpg
Measure the length of the vertical side of your calendar and divide the length by the number of weeks in that month.
23 inches divided by 6 weeks equals 3.8333
So each line should be about 4 inches apart.

20131104-171425.jpg
Take the number 7 (number of days in a week) and divide it into the length of the horizontal line of the square.
23 inches divided by 7 equals 3.285
So each horizontal line should be about 3 inches apart.

20131104-171436.jpg
Label the days of the week.

20131104-171443.jpg
Make sure to check a calendar to assure yourself that you are starting to number on the correct day of the week. Number your calendar and add a name to the top.

20131104-171449.jpg
Add in to dos.

20131104-171619.jpg
Highlight what you need that special busy someone to attend.

20131104-171701.jpg
Hang on fridge.
